Sprouts - Appetizer Salad

Ingredients :


1/2 cup green gram whole- Moong Sabut dal 
Boiled and Cubed Potatoes- 1 big or 3-4 small
Cucumber ( optional), cut into small cubes- 1/2
Tomato ( optional ), cut into small cubes- 1
Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
Salt- to taste
Red chili powder- to taste
Green chillies - 1 to 2 - cut in small pieces
Mango powder- 1/2 tsp
Chat masala- 1 tsp
Fresh green coriander leaves- to garnish
Lemon juice - to squeeze on top as garnish


Method :



  • Soak the green gram whole in hot water for 24 hours and keep in a steel steamer the next day until the sprouts come out ( approximately 1-2 days).
  • Steam the sprouts in a pressure cooker by keeping in a steel steamer until one whistle comes. 
  • In a separate pan, heat oil. In that add cumin seeds, salt, red chili powder, cut green chillies, mango powder, chat masala.
  • Now add boiled potatoes and sprouts. Mix it well.
  • Decorate with finely chopped fresh green coriander leaves and squeeze lemon juice .
  • At the time of serving, add cucumber and tomato on top of dish, if desired.Serves 2


TIP: To make it a faster process, i get a readymade sprouts packet from the Indian store. This saves the time which you need to give for the green gram whole to sprout.
