Stroganoff- Russian

Ingredients:

1/2 lb beef thinly sliced ( or chicken)
1 medium onion
1 oz butter
1 green pepper
Mushrooms- 2 oz
Salt and pepper- to taste
1/4 pint sour cream OR heavy whipping cream with 1 tsp lemon juice mixed in it
Parsley for garnish
Cooked plain rice- 1-2 cups

Method:

  • Chop the onion very finely.
  • Cut pepper into stripes. Slice the mushrooms.
  • Slice the beef or chicken into thin stripes.
  • In a pan, melt half the butter.
  • Add onion, pepper, mushroom and brown them till done. Keep aside
  • In a separate pan, add the remaining butter and fry the beef or chicken stripes gently till cooked.
  • Mix the vegetables in it.
  • Remove from fire.
  • Add sour cream or heavy whipping cream mixed with the juice of a lemon in it.
  • Keep it on the gas again and bring it to a boil till it thickens.
  • Arrange the dish on a bed of rice.
  • Sprinkle with finely chopped parsley leaves.


TIP: You can make this dish and freeze it to be used at a later date. If so, then heat the dish in a preheated oven at 425 degrees for 1/2 an hour. Serve hot.
