Giya

Ingredients:

Giya- 1 medium
Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
Onions- 2 cups loosely packed
Tomato- 1 1/4 cup
Fresh green coriander leaves ( loosely packed and finely chopped )- 1 cup
Salt- to taste
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp ( optional)
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp

Method:

  • Peel the skin of the giya and cut it into small pieces. Soak in water and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Peel and slice the onions into thin slices. Chop the tomatoes and chop the coriander leaves finely.
  • In a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and saute. Add the onions and saute on high heat, till pinkish brown in color.
  • Drain the water of the giya.
  • Now add the chopped tomatoes, giya, fresh coriander leaves, salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
  • Cook on high heat for 3-4 minutes. Add one cup water and pressure cook till one whistle on high heat.
  • Simmer and cook for 5 minutes more. Serve hot!
